So December is here and the madness has just gone up a notch. You’ve got presents to buy for everyone and his dog - then wrap them - a Christmas dinner for 14 to organise and somewhere amongst that lot you must shoehorn in your yearly visits to loved ones, or make space in your home for them to visit you. Phew. The mere thought of it all exhausts me!
Well don’t fret because we’ve got some handy tips to keep your children chirpy and cheerful despite all the upheaval the festive season can bring. Missed naps, irregular mealtimes, late bedtimes...it all adds up to a grumpy, grouc..
It’s time. We must down tools and get those Christmas thinking caps on.
Outfits, food, decorations and most importantly - presents!
The biggest gifts are usually the easiest ones to sort out. The ones we know will be greeted with howls of delight and eternal thanks (for about two weeks at least...). We can get these boxed off, boxed up and ready to go under the tree.
It’s the little ones that get us all in a tizzy. What can we possibly put in those stockings that won’t get cast aside like an old stinky sock the moment they’re unwrapped?
Well here at Little Luc..
What could possibly feel better than clambering into bed on a cold, dark night with a heavy head and happy heart? Nothing quite springs to mind...
We hope this is how our children feel when they’ve climbed the apples and pears each evening. Safe, warm and sleepy.
I love to see them teddy in hand, droopy-eyed and smiling. But what I love most of all is pulling their warm bedspreads over their little bodies for one last cuddle before their eyes close and they’re lost to the land of nod.
It does help of course if you have gorgeous bedding to be snuggled up in, not least a ..
Phew! So that’s half term out of the way. I hope you all survived the mayhem. I did but I can’t honestly say that I’m in one piece.
It was Martha’s birthday party and this year she chose the one place that paralyses me with fear. No, it wasn’t the ghost train at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, or IKEA on a Saturday afternoon for that matter. It was one of those pesky trampoline parks.
Now I did my research and told all the mums that if their children were under the age of six they would need to be accompanied by an adult. Seeing as Martha was turning six and is one of the older ones ..
I know you probably don't want to hear this, but it's time, I'm afraid, to start thinking about...just wait while I crawl under the desk and cover my ears...Christmas!
I am as reluctant as you probably are believe me, but time is pushing on and there are presents to be bought, so come on, chop chop.
Just in case you are resting on your laurels and think there is literally bags of time until the big fella jumps into your chimney pot - so to speak - let me show you my autumn pics.
These images of Heskin Hall, taken over the last three we..
So half term is almost upon us. Is it just me or is time whizzing by at the speed of a top Federer serve?
If you are dreading the prospect of a week with the children, then fear no more.
Here is my list of possible activities that you can print off and store in your handbag. Call it an insurance policy. My pleasure...
Go bonkers with conkers. Paint, stick, jewelleryfy, but first of all go out and collect them!

Now don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a thorough diagnosis when suffering from an ailment. However, when said ailment is broadcast to complete strangers, along with my name, address, phone number and CB radio handle...well I think I’d rather suffer in silence.
By the way, the following tale has nothing whatsoever to do with beautiful handmade to order children’s bedroom furniture, which we specialise in at Little Lucy Willow, but I thought I would tell you anyway...
The other day I was in the chemist thanks to a rather nasty bout of athlete's foot. I know you prob..
The evenings are getting longer and the air, crisp and cold. It’s that time of year when we relish climbing into our beds on those darkest of dark nights and getting wrapped up ready to sleep.
I love ‘nesting’ for the winter around now and to help me along - and you of course! - I have expanded our Little Lucy Willow childrens bedding range to include some simply gorgeous new products. If you’re anything like me you will struggle to pick out your favourite. I am still undecided.
Here are the girls contenders…
The Paisley Quilt with its beautiful striking teal and fuschi..
I can’t quite believe it’s October already. Driving into work this morning I noticed the trees beginning to turn. Against a clear cobalt sky it was a sight to behold! Listen to me getting all poetic. Anyway I took a photograph of the glorious horse chestnut outside Heskin Hall, just next to our showroom, so you could share in its delight!
So back to the business of children’s furniture, or children’s sleep habits to be more precise...I read an article this week about super sleep nanny, Lucy Shrimpton, who professes to have some prize ideas on how to get your children..

Now that school is back in full flow and evening activities are too, our days are packed with car journeys, clubs and homework. As predicted in our house, study and commitments have escalated this year to such a degree that I am struggling to do my motherly duties and cram it all in!
However, my latest purchase for Martha has proved a winning idea. No, it isn’t a personal tutor, or a nanny or a maid (although I could do with all three). It is a simple bedside table.
I am amazed at what a difference this small, unassuming piece of children’s furniture has made to o..
This week I was invited to a wedding which got me thinking about my own nuptials all those years ago...I recall being madly in love. How amazing it would be as we faced the years together, hand in hand, cheek to cheek!
I was incapable of imagining life without my wonderful, funny, gorgeous, caring, romantic man.
Fast forward to the present day and mysteriously, I am finding it much easier to picture the same scenario...Hmmm. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my husband very much, but am more excited by spotless worktops and an empty washing basket these days. His ..

When you decide to revamp a child’s room, it can seem like an overwhelming task.
After weeks of building yourself up to getting started, you gingerly open the door with the best intentions but having cast your eye over the mountainous mess, promptly close it again. Aaaaand breathe!
Children seem to accumulate so many useless things, so many small things and so many things that don’t seem to belong anywhere in particular. The latter usually reside in a pile in the corner, get crammed under the bed, or stuffed in a drawer and forgotten about forever! Bouncy balls, slinkies, paint-you..
