Chasing rainbows...

It is always the same isn't it? Glorious sunshine in June, then as soon as the children finish school it’s rain, rain and more rain.

So what do we do when the weather is just not on our side?

I have exhausted all ideas of craft already, having given over my dining table to paints, glitter, glue, pom poms and last year’s Christmas cards. It was a great success, for one afternoon…

We have baked a mountain of cakes, which despite not looking quite like the picture in the book, at least tasted nice…

I have cleaned the house a thousand times and managed one day with a completely empty washing basket (a once in a lifetime achievement), such was the turnover of laundry...

We have visited an art gallery and done a city bus tour - the sights of which were hardly visible through the rain drenched windows.

At least the rain has allowed me to go over the new Lucy Willow website with the finest tooth comb in the land. I am still amazed at how lovely it’s all looking - if I do say so myself, ahem. Just take a peek here. See, I told you!

We have spent this weekend in Scotland and as you can probably guess, the rain is still lashing down as I write this blog from the comfort of my cosy armchair, slippers on and all. There is a also a hot chocolate steaming beside me, spurring me on.

I am beginning to wonder whether I have stepped into Dr Who’s tardis by complete accident and ended up two seasons in the future. Good job I packed those thermal undergarments. A last minute but welcome addition to the overflowing roof box.

Rain or shine, it’s fortunate that I have this to keep the children happy - not to mention its many duvet-clad extensions...the contents of this holiday home are slowly disappearing into the abyss that is otherwise known as the Gingerbread Cottage Playhouse!

I have no doubt whatsoever that the sun will be shining somewhere right now. Just not on us. Even the cattle are running for cover.

Having said all that, at least I’ve got a clean house, empty washing basket, stash of cakes and a bit of culture under my belt. Ok, so it’s not all bad this rain malarky, granted.

Sunshine? It’s overrated. Give me a wet weekend in Wigan any day of the week!
