When you decide to revamp a child’s room, it can seem like an overwhelming task.
After weeks of building yourself up to getting started, you gingerly open the door with the best intentions but having cast your eye over the mountainous mess, promptly close it again. Aaaaand breathe!
Children seem to accumulate so many useless things, so many small things and so many things that don’t seem to belong anywhere in particular. The latter usually reside in a pile in the corner, get crammed under the bed, or stuffed in a drawer and forgotten about forever! Bouncy balls, slinkies, paint-your-own-garden-gnome, to name but three.
My approach to such matters (after mulling it over for a few weeks) is to make a start however small. Set yourself a goal of tidying just one shelf and before you know it, you’ll be surrounded by bin bags and ready to roll.
Out with the old and in with the neu(tral).
Neutral tones coupled with bright accessories never fail to refresh and revive an otherwise tired room so consider creating a backdrop that will endure your child’s changing tastes as they grow.
Many accessories and soft furnishings will come and go with the years, so the walls, floor and furniture need to accommodate varying colour. Think grey, taupe, stone and white.
Painted furniture is a sensible option for young children, not least because at Little Lucy Willow our three-stage finishing process results in a highly durable product which can be wiped clean. In addition, all our painted furniture comes with a five-year guarantee. Our palette of subtle pastel shades can be seen here.
If you are choosing a first big bed for your toddler, then you’ll be interested to learn that nearly all of our children’s beds feature two height settings. The first is just 23cm from the floor. As your child grows and you adjust the bed to the higher setting, you can then consider adding underbed storage or a truckle for the many sleepover parties you will no doubt be hosting in the future!
And then there is the small matter of deciding which matching pieces you will need to make your child’s bedroom complete, not to mention the bedding, lighting and soft furnishings...
Happy shopping!
