New sheets always make bed an inviting place to be, which is exactly what we want our children to feel when they rest their sleepy heads. And if we choose wisely, we can make sure they stay cool and comfortable too.
When deciding which duvet set to buy, think natural fibres first.
Material such as cotton is breathable whereas synthetics, such as polyester, are not. It has been reported that the average adult produces one pint of sweat through the night, so the more ventilation the better! However, we’re guessing your children don’t fall into that bracket just yet!
A good place to start is with organic cotton. Grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or any other chemical, it is ideal for children. Also, it cannot be genetically modified. Dealing with pests, weeds or fungi around these crops is usually done through natural or traditional methods, such as growing plants nearby which deter these problems and extracting weeds manually. This cotton is also softer and of greater quality than conventional cotton due to the care required when producing something organically.
Despite the fact that cotton sheets can seem heavier than other options, they are preferable as they allow more circulation. Their ‘crispness’ ensures that they don’t lie too close to the body and therefore trap in heat.
