So, you’ve decided to invest in a new bed for your child but don't quite know what to go for. Buying a child’s bed isn’t the simple affair it once was, with fierce competition on the high street plus designers clamouring to corner the market with novel and eye-catching ideas.
Car shaped beds, bus shaped beds, beds built like castles - complete with turrets…
Of course aesthetics are important but it is also crucial to make sure you spend wisely, especially when looking for something to see your toddler through to their teens and beyond.
Spacesavers
If living space is at a premium in your home, a bed that could provide extra storage should be at the top of your list.
Your options here include beds with storage beneath, truckle beds, or the highly practical cabin bed.
Our under bed storage options, which can be added to any of our beds, include one large drawer or a set of three, depending on your requirements. This is the perfect way to get organised and have easy access to your belongings too.
If you desire a little more storage - plus a tidy, retractable desk - our cabin bed is the perfect solution.
With drawers, a cupboard and shelves packed neatly beneath a spacious single bed, it really does make all the difference when trying to design a bedroom that's on the smaller side.
Double or single?
If you view a new bed as an investment rather than something you know will be replaced in few years time, you might take a different approach to both your budget and preferred design.
For example, it might not seem altogether sensible at first to buy a double bed for your child. The idea might seem like an alien concept, but it's one that many parents are now going for, if space is not an issue.
A double bed affords plenty of room for your child to grow, cuddle up with a bedtime story, or be comforted during the night as is often the case with small children.
Such beds can also come in handy when guests come to stay, long after your little one has fled the nest!
Buying three imported beds over a period of say, 10 years, could cost as much, if not more, than buying a good quality, luxury product, which is handmade to order here in the UK.
Toddlers
There are no hard or fast rules when it comes to buying a first ‘real’ bed for your child. The most important things to consider are buying a comfortable, supportive mattress, providing plenty of room for your child to grow and creating a secure sleeping environment.
All Little Lucy Willow beds are suitable for toddlers due to our unique adjustable height feature which at its lowest setting measures just 23cm from the floor to the slats. This can be raised once your child grows and under bed storage or a truckle added if required.
During National Bed Month we are offering £75 off a mattress with every bed purchased.
