I for one did NOT want to get up this morning. And it was nothing to do with that soiree I attended last night. Honestly. What is it about ice cold white wine on a warm spring evening…?
But you know, not wanting to get out of bed is a year-round thing I suppose, the kind that comes with the territory when you’ve got a wonderfully comfortable mattress too. As one of life’s luxuries, it’s a haven of calm and relaxation, but it’s also a necessity for the growing spines of our children.
If children don’t have adequate back support during their early years, it can result in aches and pains later on. BackCare, the charity for back and neck pain, says that young, supple backs need a good quality, supportive bed to prevent any problems in adulthood. Its research also reveals an increase in the number of teenagers and young children suffering from back ailments. The curse of the ‘cyber generation’ perhaps?
In addition, research carried out at London’s St Thomas’s Hospital, revealed that toddlers can grow as much as 1.5cm overnight. This rate reduces as children get older but most are still growing into their late teens and some, into their early twenties. Considering this, a mattress which is sufficiently large and supportive is as crucial to a seven year-old as it is to a young adult.
When it comes to choosing a bed for your child, the mattress should be given the greatest consideration. Foam is perhaps the cheapest option but is not considered to be the best for children, having a tendency to place the spine under stress for prolonged periods. This is especially true of memory foam which can shape the body over time. To avoid this, most sleep experts recommend a mattress with a firm, yet comfortable, innerspring system.
At Little Lucy Willow, all our handmade-to-order mattresses are pocket sprung. We wouldn’t want to sell anything less than luxurious, not to mention practical of course.
Now tell me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it our duty as parents to induce blissful, uninterrupted sleep and provide a healthy sleeping environment for our children? If so, surely a spacious, supportive bed will go a long way in helping to achieve such a quest. Plus, if you wouldn’t dream of sleeping on a cheap old mattress that has seen better days, why should they?
Get your sleeping arrangements in perfect order and give your child one more reason to stay in bed just that little bit longer.
Their slumber is in your hands!
