It’s been chaos in our house this week. As half term neatly collided with shrove Tuesday I thought I would invite a couple of my daughter’s friends round to play – and make pancakes…That was my first mistake. Thinking I could guesstimate the quantities of ingredients…that was my second. My third? Overindulging in the tasty treats until I resembled the wolf who ate the seven little kids.
The main problem was that I was using the wrong pan. Yes, I am going to blame my tools. The mixture was sticking to the bottom like Barnacle Bill so while I tried and tried again with varying combinations of oil and pancake the children gorged themselves on sandwiches.
By the time the penny had finally dropped and I switched pans, the girls couldn’t even bear to look at a pancake never mind eat one. A perfect pile of pancakes untouched..mmmm. I couldn’t just leave them there could I? My greatest achievement of the day (apart from breaking records for the most pancakes consumed in such a short period) was the creation of ‘Pancat’. Legendary.
The rest of half term has involved a couple of ‘take your children to work’ days. They don’t mind because it doesn’t happen too often. It is always a very busy time for us at ourLittle Lucy Willow showroom in Heskin, especially as the little ones can visit and see our beds for themselves. And when they come along with their grandparents they can be especially persuasive!
Aside from work, we managed to squeeze in a couple of days in beautiful Bath. The girls had a great time and so did we but we’ve promised ourselves a child-free return to visit the Thermae Bath Spa in the not too distant future. I hope we manage it soon, the sight of steam rising from the rooftops at dusk is forever in my mind!
