As the children have grown and changed, so have their lighting requirements. Maybe it’s all those monsters they read about, or more recently pirates, but whatever it is, as their awareness has risen, so has their stash of lamps and shades…
I have always aimed to create a soft, cosy atmosphere in their rooms, giving an air of comfort whether for sleeping or playing. One solitary light hanging from the ceiling doesn’t always achieve this and can seem harsh, particularly when using some energy saving bulbs. To combat this, you need to get creative, especially if your child won’t sleep in the dark.
Fairy lights will always soften a room, especially the low voltage, LED variety, which don’t heat up and are safe to use near fabric. But if your child has a large bedroom, and isn’t keen on the dark at bedtime, a lamp or two can generate a homely, snug atmosphere that is sure to induce many hours of restful sleep. Darker shades will create a softer light whilst a simple adjustable desk lamp can be manipulated to achieve the desired effect.
For those children who prefer a darker room with just a twinkle for comfort, battery operated light-up wall art is perfect and is timed to go off after two hours. These canvases are stunning pictures even before their lights go on so will brighten up any child’s bedroom day or night.
Finally, I doubt there’s a child on the planet who doesn’t like things that glow in the dark. As well as stars for the ceiling, have you ever considered a glow in the dark rug? Take a look at our selection. My favourite is the Dancing Dolphins. Just gorgeous!
