As it’s our tenth birthday this month we have been thinking long and hard about celebrations. What can we do to mark this auspicious occasion? What would be the most fitting tribute to all our efforts and subsequent successes?
I decided to compile my own shortlist of the greatest parties on the planet in a bid to garner some inspiration…
I noticed that the Beckhams recently rented out what seemed like the whole of Marrakesh for David’s birthday and had a blast by all accounts. Gorgeous people were flown in from all corners of the globe to attend this ‘golden ball’. Yes, this idea is definitely a contender.
Elton John once rented out the biggest gothic church in the world in New York. He donned a Louis XIV costume complete with monstrous wig that needed special transportation just to be brought to the event. You’ve got to love Elton, but I think Jason would be more suited to the mahogany locks of King Charles II to be honest. Mmm, I’ll have to have a think about this one.
Naomi Campbell pulled out all the stops for her 36th birthday by inviting a plane load of movers and shakers to a three-day extravaganza at the ultra luxurious seven-star Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, which she rented exclusively for the event. There was a different theme for each day of her celebration, starting with all-white on the first day, hip hop on the second, and Brazilian samba to finish. Not much wardrobe pressure there then…This is a definite no. I mean, Hip hop?
In 1996, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei threw a two-week-long shindig worth $25 million apparently. The celebrations began with a military march and included a polo match with Prince Charles, a dinner party for 3000 guests at the Sultan’s palace and a concert by Michael Jackson. Nope, I think this one’s out. Well it wouldn’t be right to go ahead without the King of Pop now would it?
Well, considering the private jet hasn’t arrived (just yet!), Elton has bagged all the best period costumes and Jacko is no longer with us, I think it’s going to be back to the original plan. Fish, chips and a drop of prosecco. Now what could be better than that?
