There are times in our lives when we start to question how we got to where we are today.
Was it because we passed our geography exam at school? Was it because our mums and dads taught us how to use our cutlery correctly? Or was it because we decided, at the very last minute, to go out on that rainy Saturday night – despite our bad hair – and bump into our soul mate?
I suspect it’s all three and a lot more besides. I often get to thinking about these matters, especially in the midst of a bleak January morning when there’s nothing on the horizon but the same old same old. Oooooh this is all a bit deep for a luxury children’s furniture blog don’t you think? I’d better lighten up!
So, as I was recently wrapping a personalised fleece blanket for a newborn baby with the world at his feet, I started to think about what I might have done differently…
- I would have listened harder in maths when Mr Tickle explained long division. Yes, that was his name.
- I would have refused that extra shift at my local restaurant on the day Prince was playing at Maine Road (it’s almost too painful to think about this one!)
- I would have locked the rabbit hutch door on that fateful summer’s day…
- I would never have agreed to buy a tortoise.
- Or two cats.
- I would have told a certain z-elebrity politely where to stuff it when he was rude to me on an aeroplane once.
- I would never have worn those silly high heels to a day at the funfair, forcing me to purchase some rather fetching mesh slippers from a local market. Yes, you read that correctly. Mesh. Slippers.
- I would have let Martha have the Florence Flutterby bedroom collection when she asked for it instead of giving her a Barney and Boo display bed then leaving myself open to years of incessant pestering.
- I would definitely have worn more flattering underwear (and shaved my legs) on the day I rolled over a car bonnet.
- I would have embraced my 20s with every fibre of my being – danced until dawn as often as I could, loved, lost and loved again and changed my hair colour as often as my socks. Wait a minute, I vaguely remember actually doing some of that…
- I would have travelled the world for as long as my bank account would let me.
- I would have oozed more confidence when auditioning for the Daz advert.
- I would have kissed that Argentinian tap dancer when I had the chance.
- I would have worn a different dress on my wedding day.
- I would live my life for the here and now, without regretting the past or worrying about the future. (NB Show me anyone who can actually do this and I’ll show my derriere in Piccadilly Circus!)
