It’s a tough time for kids. I recall having a very personal dislike of clothing giant, C&A, as a youngster, being faced with their pretend blackboards scribbled with “bak to skool” and other such ‘crazy’ things, on about the second day of the holidays. It was a sight that turned my
stomach. These days I seem to be on the lookout for any inkling that school might be on the horizon. Now I wonder why that is…?
There are downsides for parents when children go back to school would you believe. For one, we have to pull our collective finger out and get on with the toilsome task of sorting new uniforms, shoes and the all important hair cut. It isn’t pleasant by any stretch. I recall the queues at the uniform shop last year being longer than those for the log flume at Alton Towers – minus the fun-filled reward at the end.Shoe-gate was even worse with no particular queue to speak of, just lots of parents exercising overly friendly eye contact with the assistant in an attempt to get served next. It probably didn’t help that I left it until the last minute, thinking if I did it any earlier my daughter would probably have a record-breaking overnight growth spurt making the shoes redundant. Strangely, I didn’t consider that she might have one the night before school but that’s just my daft logic. Luckily she didn’t…
Anyway, when I eventually did sit down in the shoe shop I was so fed up that I got talked into buying some PE pumps that my daughter never even tried on until we got home. Needless to say, they looked like two longboats which she couldn’t have walked in never mind run. A late
dash to the supermarket sorted that problem out where I joined a handful of other mums searching frantically among the deserted racks for the pumps that would complete our uniform lists once and for all. Hurrah!
Aside from clothing there are other things to consider too, such as the all-important desk. Have a browse through these lovely Little Lucy Willow desks and tables and forget the uniforms for now. This will be a much more enjoyable experience so grab a cuppa, zone out…..and relax!
