Not quite ‘summer ready’? Join the club…

As soon as the sun starts to shine what’s the first thing that springs to mind? After the initial thankheavensitswarmer feeling has subsided of course…For me, it’s wardrobe hysteria. We are often afforded little warning when the weather is going to improve. One day it’s icy cold and the next, it is positively tropical! This leaves us with precisely five minutes to overhaul our wardrobes by ditching those polo necks and dragging out the old faithful “summer clothes”.

Will last year’s t-shirts that haven’t seen the light of day for six months be good to go? Will they have been devoured by moths? Spotted with mold? Or worse still, will they be two sizes too small?

Not only will we have to start the obligatory “trying on” to see what we can get away with after successfully hiding those extra few pounds under our jumpers for a whole winter, but we may also have to bare our feet. That’s if those sandals you buried in the back of the shoe rack haven’t been taken over by a fast breeding family of spiders. The horror of it all!

A decent pedicure is in order no doubt, to breathe a bit of life into those toes with a splash of colour for good measure. I have three close friends who happen to be a podiatrist, a reflexologist and a beauty therapist, so you’d think that my feet would be the best in town. Mmm, maybe I should start calling in a few favours…

Once all this is done, it is then time to assess how much weight we might need to lose in order to feel better about getting that little bit closer to nature once more.

My tips are as follows:

  • porridge for breakfast.
  • low fat yoghurt (Fage) and fruit for a snack.
  • ham and eggs or salad for lunch.
  • chicken or fish, with plenty of greens for dinner.

I have found by doing this and drinking lots of water for just one week makes all the difference. Plus a few sit ups if you can manage them…ok, maybe that’s pushing it a little.

Furniture removal is another good way to shift the pounds I have discovered. Transporting a Little Lucy Willow bed from one end of our showroom to the other – with plenty of help of course such is the weight of them – has me sweating buckets! It is a task even the likes of Big Daddy might struggle with. I think our showroom will be seeing a few more rearrangements in the coming weeks, at least until my tum is sufficiently taut that is!
