Birthdays often prompt us to reflect on the past. So as we celebrate our tenth year in business, I thought I would take a trip back in time, to the year when it all began for us.
It was the year when the final Star Wars movie premiered in London, complete with a regiment of Storm Troopers and Darth Vader, when Glastonbury Festival suffered record flash floods and Daniel Craig was revealed as the next James Bond. Oh and Take That got back together, minus Robbie…
Here are a few more snippets from 2005.
January – The world awakes still reeling from the effects of the recent Asian Tsunami.
February – The Hunting Act comes into force
March – Doctor Who is revived, with Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper taking the starring roles.
April – Charles and Camilla get married.
May – Labour win the general election and Bob Geldof announces plans for a ‘Live 8’ concert to coincide with the G8 summit. The concert takes place two months later
June – Prince William graduates from St Andrews University
July – London is chosen as the host city for the Olympic Games in 2012.
London is devastated by the July 7th bombings.
August – Oasis scored their eighth and final number one with ‘The Importance of Being Idle’.
September – The England cricket team wins The Ashes.
October – Saddam Hussein goes on trial in Baghdad for crimes against humanity.
November – Britain’s 400th Guy Fawkes night is celebrated.
Pubs in England and Wales are permitted to open for 24 hours for the first time.
December – David Cameron, aged 39, is elected as leader of the Conservative Party.
